Olympic Tribute & Celebrating the Striving Spirit

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Thoughts behind the work:  Artwork began for my “Joy from Effort” t-shirt design with these 2008 Summer Olympics in mind.  As I worked what rose up for me was why we connect with these amazing athletes.  There’s a saying, “God rests in reason and moves in passion.”  Our hearts may dictate a purpose but determination takes passion.  From there it’s about the desire to rise above our own limits.  When we watch Olympians we witness the overcoming of obstacles and it lifts our own limitations, increasing possibilities for our own capabilities.  Connecting with another’s dream frees us to attempt more in our own lives. Ultimately, it’s about going for it, whatever it may be for you personally.

Joy from Effort is about participating and enjoying the experiences along the way.  That’s something we can all relate to.  When we achieve small goals along the way, it fuels our passion. The hidden beauty lies in the unforeseen gifts - the people, experiences, and self-knowledge acquired along the way.  All of these aspects recharge our fearless desire to overcome obstacles and heroically persevere the day to day.

Naturally, as an artist, it’s my hope that something in the work resonates with its viewer.  I would love for the observer or t-shirt wearer to feel somehow empowered in their own plight.  If you have a story to share about your striving spirit, it can bring you a free “Joy from Effort” t-shirt from Cutting-Up… Hope you’ll participate boldly and surrender - no matter your direction today.  What’s your story?  Tell me here on the blog or e:mail your thoughts to: www.info@cutting-up.com

New York City, BABY!

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

We may have left a bit of our hearts in San Francisco (Gift Market) ; but, we’ve finally on our way back to the Big Apple!  New York City, BABY!  The first time we displayed in NY was this past Feb. And, of course I cried excited happy tears both in the San Fran airport & in the plane somewhere high above our continental U.S. (and maybe a little bit writing this right now).  Getting to NY has truly been a dream come true for me, a full-circle experience I’ve the priviledge to acknowledge!  Thanks to everyone now - in the past - & all along this ride - that’s been a part of this beautiful Cutting-Up story.  Colleen & I, as well as now an entire, fabulous Cutting-Up collective, treasure the support & love we’ve felt along the way that’s made it possible for us to be heading back to the heart of things (with all our collective heart(s) to see what may come our way. Fingers crossed & big prayers up!  I love every step of this heart-full adventure… We’re going to do our best; so, if you would, please keep us in your prayers.  What a feeling!  Let the countdown to lift-off begin because we are  FULL to the BRIM with GRATITUDE!  Wahoo!

‘Round Here

These are images from my surroundings… lots of things that have stories… things that I love… things people have given me or made for me… like my talented, beautiful mother.  These images are compiled from photos taken around my little ‘craft cabin’… which is what I call my home… or… in the beginning it was my ‘healing house’ - before I knew I was an artist. I can’t believe I’ve been here almost 9 years, post-divorce. Astonishing; but… hand to God, I go to sleep and wake up every day full of gratitude and awe over the fullness of my years, the reach of my experiences, and - yes - even my silly little things.
