Feed the Squirrels

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

I admit it… I’ve a soft spot for Mr. Fix-it… And, here he is.  This is my sweet-hearted Doug… handyman, father, & weekend project warrior. On this sunny Texas afternoon, Doug’s daughter was having a friend over to play & a plan was made for the kids to build their very own squirrel feeders… and build they did.

Kids have a way of reminding us to have fun. Here are some tips: there’s never just one way to do anything.  Allow friends to do things their own way. And, always laugh together.  Laughter should be a part of every project, and most assuredly squirrel projects.

So, prior to build, the kids decided to keep their little hands busy by de-kournel-ing a few ears of corn.  Some might suggest that would defeat the ‘feeding’ purpose of the squirrel feeder; but, who am I to judge? I’m just here to capture the moments of their perfection… like these:

Stop: Hammer-Time

Jack’s daddy says: “If I had a hammer, I’d hammer in the morning… I’d hammer in the evening… all over this land…” Pretty much priceless, don’t you think?

Mission Accomplished!

Perfect Daddy Daughter Photo! How much do we love this pic?! Ahhhh!

This is the end of a happy squirrel-ly tail.

Consider Yourself

Colleen & I have known each other forever (forevs!)…our families know each other’s families… and we have truly become members of each other’s families. So despite the fact that Colleen & I have been on the January trade-show-a go-go (Atlanta, Dallas & New York)… we were looking so forward to a very special day in February ~ when Colleen’s baby brother, Brian, married his girl ~ Jill (who we LOVE!)

The entire event was amazing ~ the brothers were groomsmen & Colleen & her sister did readings for the ceremony. Brian, now a Major in the United States Air Force, (Snap!) & his bride Jill had an intimate & formal wedding - soldiers with swords at arms - the whole deal.  The ceremony was beautiful & a fun-filled, relaxed reception followed. It was a magical & happy night ~ one where everyone danced ~ to everything ~ all night.  It did not matter if the DJ played “The Twist” or “My Hump” ~ we were there to stay… and stay we did. It was a memory making eve ~ one where your cheeks hurt from laughing so hard at each other & smiling because you love everyone around you so dearly.

Anyway, I caught the bouquet. (Thank you Jill!) Jill really threw it right to me… but I did catch it… that counts, right? I would like to say Colleen & I staged the dramatized photos below of the catch & moments of pure joy & relief that followed - but I think the images are more a manifestation of the truth - albeit a smidge exaggerated.  “no no drama… we don’t want no drama…” - Black Eyed Peas

If you’re reading this, consider yourself a part of the Cutting-Up family. And, if you’re a member of the Cutting-Up family - then you’re a part of our families too. Colleen & I are both uber happy to be able to share these pics with you. I hope the love & happiness of this cozy eve ooozes out and flows from our lives into yours. Let the happiness flow baby…let it flow!

Create Your Beautiful Day

My amazing mom, Billie, bought me a year’s membership to the Kimball Art Museum in Fort Worth for Christmas!  It’s among my coolest, dearest, and most adored gifts.  I couldn’t wait to ‘break-in’ the gift, so, my mom and I ventured to Fort Worth for lunch at the museum and took time to absorb the inspiration and masterpieces all around.  If you haven’t been to a museum lately take a trip for your soul to absorb the colors, pallets, perspectives, and history from an reknowned artist’s vantage point.  Grab a friend or a family member and head out!  You may be suprirised who would like to go along with!  Here are some photos from our fabulous afternoon…

Pre-Thanksgiving “Prep With The Coopers”

I’m ever thankful Colleen & I have been a part of each other’s lives so long now that we are a part of each other’s families. We love sharing our profound friendship with you all. And, Cutting-Up continues to be an extension of our great love we have for others, for which you too are now a great part! In the pics here we shared measuring cups, family, friendships, and taste tests the night before Thanksgiving preparing for Colleen’s great feast! We hope you all had moments like these to share with you and yours… and that they ripple with warmth in all your days!

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” -Henry David Thoreau
